A couple of babies went on unintended joy rides without their moms recently after they were left - in two separate incidents - "safely" strapped into their car seats while their parents took care of business.

In one case, a thief in Texas took off with a car and made an about turn when he noticed a toddler in the back seat - more than he had bargained for. The parents had left the baby to warm up while they packed up their fishing gear; they got their baby back - and an earful from the car thief.

And in Denver, a tow truck driver trolling private lots towed a car two miles to the yard, only to find a 9-month-old sucking on her bottle in the back. We're wondering what mom must have thought when she came back to find her car - and baby - missing; she might be charged by the police.

I feel bad in parking lots when I have to ditch my cart next to the car because I don't want to take it to the cart return with my baby already back in the car. I can't imagine leaving her alone in a car like those moms did!

wow, i can't even go to the restroom without having my little girl on eyesight, i'll give her a coloring book and sit her near the door and keep the door open, when cooking i turn on the tv on the living room and let her watch dora, that way i can see her from the kitchen, and even now that i'm on the computer she's playing w/ her baby doll sitting beside me, there is not a moment that she is away from me, she's going to be 2 in 3 months and likes to close all doors, i let her play alone if she wants to, but i still watch her. some may think it is a bit much(i.e. my sister) but i have seen children get really hurt even at home and i'm not going to let anything happen to my baby girl if i can avoid it. once when mi niece was about 2 years old, my sister was talking on the phone iin her bedroom and my niece was in the living room, when she came back out,  the baby  had opened the oven door, climbed on top of it and was ready to stir the food her mother was cooking. Yes, i am 1 of those overprotective mothers, who loves her child sooo much that preffers to take showers late at night when the baby is soundly assleep. but nothing has happened to my child and i want to keep it that way.

This irritates me so much. My husband's in Afghanistan... I have no help, but I drag a purse, a diaper bag, and a 21 pound child in and out of the car every time I get in or out of the car. I would never leave her alone in the car no matter what the circumstance. If you don't want to take your child in some place, wait until you have a responsible sitter available to watch him/her. It's not rocket science.

I hate hearing stories like these. Cmon people, its not that hard to just take the baby with you! I don't know how many different way to get people to understand, its not safe to leave your baby ANYWHERE! Not even for a minute! This day in age you can never tell what will happen.

I live in Denver and as one news station pointed out when this happened, we also had 3 little babies die last summer because their parents left them in the car for "just a minute".
