New bedtime book, "Go The F*ck To Sleep"

Don't call it a kid's book - it's a bedtime laugh for the adult set. For every parent who has ever been frustrated by the struggle to get their child to sleep, author and dad Adam Mansbach has a book for you: "Go The F**ck to Sleep."

Mansbach was inspired to write the book by his own struggle in putting his then two-year-old daughter to bed. "Hopefully, the book is very reflective of what we all feel putting our kids to bed," he said on the Today Show. "We all love our kids – it’s not like we stop loving our kids – but as the minutes tick by, we’ll do anything to get out of that room."

Though the book won't be released until October, it's already ranked #1 in parenting books and #4 in humor books on Amazon.com. It's designed like a children's book, with beautiful illustrations, and rhyming four line stanzas that all end in the book's trademark phrase, such as this one:
The cats nestle close to their kittens now.
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cozy and warm in your bed, my dear
Please go the fuck to sleep.
Of the book's profane title, Mansbach told the Today Show, "it's an honest take on parenting, and that sometimes honesty is a little profane, but that doesn't mean we're not good parents, or that we don't love our kids. I think people are responding because this gives them permission to acknowledge their frustrations, and to laugh."

What do you think: Hilarious or crass? Would you buy this book?

This really made my night.the humor in the harder parts of being a parent makes it all worth while. I am actually fighting my 1 year old to go the f*ck to sleep at 12:30 a.m.she woke up and apparently believes she can stay up as long as she pleases.

I got the pdf version already...too funny!  I don't think its meant to read to your child but as adult fun!

I would absolutely buy this book. It sounds f#@&ing hilarious...especially since my husband & I are desperately trying to get our 12 week-old twins to go to sleeeeep as I write this at 1:20 am!!!

I think it's not only crass, but is indicative of how shallow and devolved our society has become when it comes to morals and decorum. The entire book hinges on the "F-word". Take that word out, and you have nothing. The novelty of using such a foul word in an application of childrens' poetry wears out after the first rhyme.

And before I'm judged as being a prude or too serious, let me just add as a side note that I'm a humorist by profession with Playboy magazine on my list of freelance clients. I just think that using the F-word 180 degrees out of its normal context does not an innovative book make.

i love that title!! i have honestly found myself wanting to say that once or twice. our little boy is 2, his sister is 2 months. so, he was having sleeping issues while i was pregnant with her. its hard being a mom to one, but then pregnant again makes it very hard. profanity is not always the best answer, but honestly, its just a book. get the kiddies to bed, grab a drink, and read this by yourself in your room. the kids will never know!!!
