Photography expert Me Ra Koh inspires you for this month’s photo contest, Baby Mama, with a simple Photo-Recipe to help you shine with your baby!
Moms are in danger of being non-existent in family photos! There are thousands of pictures of the baby, and of the baby with everyone from dad, to grandma and the neighbor! But what about us moms? For this month’s photo contest, I’m excited to equip you with one of my favorite Photo-Recipes; this one’s a recipe for taking a photo that not only captures your baby but also makes YOU look great! Instead of you taking the photo, it puts you in the director’s seat. As you hand over your camera to dad, grandma or your friend, use this quick Photo-Recipe to guide the shoot.
1.Less is More. Ask your photographer to get in tight with the framing of you and your baby by zooming in or scooting up close. Their challenge: how little of mom can they have in the photo while still having enough of you present to communicate your adoration for your baby?
2.Half the Arms. When I’m photographing moms and babies, no matter how skinny my client is, a woman NEVER likes to see her whole arm in a photo. So ask your photographer to be mindful of composing the shot in such a way that half of your arm is missing. Trust me; you will LOVE this person forever for taking such a flattering picture.
3.Block with Baby. Position your baby to block any of your vulnerable spots. For example, position your baby’s head to block the camera’s view of any double chin you might have. Or if you feel insecure about baby weight, lay on your side (a very slenderizing pose!) and place your baby right in front of your tummy.
Put this simple Photo-Recipe to the test with these three golden tips, and you will SHINE! I look forward to seeing your photo contest submissions! May your Mother’s Day be unforgettable and frame-able!
