Dear Baby Princess,

We're about to go through several major life changes.

I know I've been a little quiet lately, and I apologize for that.  The recap is that we have a ton going on, most of which I've been nervous to post about because it falls into the "what if we get excited about it and it doesn't happen?" category.  And when you are thinking about all of life's big stuff, it is hard to write about things that are a little less weighty.  So here's the rundown .  .  .

This Monday, I'm starting a new job.  I'll still be at Georgia Tech, but in a new office, and I can't wait.  No, it's not my ultimate dream job and no, I didn't double my salary.  But it is a step up, it's a little more money, and so far everyone I'm working with seems fantastic.  In the few interactions I've had with that office, I already feel more supported that I did during 5 years in my old department.  It is going to be so refreshing to work with people who say "how can I help?" instead of "that's not my job."  I'll let you know how it's going once I get started.

The downside to switching jobs at the same insitution is that there isn't really an opportunity to take time off without it counting as, well, time off.  But I did manage to sneak in one day off yesterday and Daddy and I spent the day looking at daycares in our new neighborhood.  That's right, we're moving too!  It looks like our financing has come through and we are really, truly buying a house.  I can't believe it.  This is so exciting, Baby Princess.  We knew we needed to move this spring regardless (as you get bigger, it's becoming less practical to have your room function as the guest room as well).  Our plan was really just to look for something slightly larger to rent for now, and to eventually buy in the school system where we want you to grow up.  But Daddy has been keeping an eye on that area for years, and happened to find us a deal that is just too good to pass up.  So we are going to live in a house!  Like grownups!

The daycare search is a little tough.  (Sorry we didn't bring you with us yesterday, Baby Princess.  There is definitely some value in your reaction to things, but we knew you would be happier spending the day at your current daycare than being dragged from place to place.  And, truth be told, we were disproportionately excited about spending a whole day together since that's something we virtually never do.)  While we have our complaints, we are truly spoiled with your current daycare and it's going to be hard to switch you anwyere else even though that is definitely best in the long run.  And financially speaking, we really can't keep you there even if we were willing to make you continue to commute to midtown with me.  So we will be crossing our fingers and trying something new, and hopefully we can all grow to love - or at least like - a different place.

You are waking up from your nap so I think you and I are going to hit the mall.  Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you, the Giants won the Super Bowl!  You looked adorable in the little cheerleader outfit Daddy ordered for you.  So if this never happens again in your lifetime, know that you got to witness at least one Giants Super Bowl win.  Just don't mention it to J.

More to come soon, Baby Princess, including some amazing visitors next weekend!  But for now, let's head out for shopping and lunch!

Love,

Mommy

Awesome, congrats on the promotion and the house! And good luck on finding a new daycare.
