Dear Baby Princess,
As Daddy said, it might have been the greatest moment we've had with you yet.
On Thursday we were out to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa D (you've had a wonderful visit with them, by the way). Since you're in the cast you were sitting in the booth with Daddy and I, balanced on Daddy's knee. Just a couple of minutes after we ordered, you saw a server with a tray across the restaurant and in excitement about the arrival of the food, shouted your trademark "YAY!" and started to applaud. But then - disaster - the server took the tray to another table. "I'm sorry, baby" I said. "That's not ours."
As it slowly registered that the food was not coming to us, you pushed your trembling lower lip out as far as it could possibly go and your beautiful blue eyes opened wider and wider. And then, after a few seconds where I swear your lip and your eyes took up your entire face, you burst into tears.
I don't know what it was about that moment that was so touching, but your intense excitement followed by your supreme sadness just made us all want to laugh and cry at the same time. We giggled and hugged you tight and marveled for the millionth time at how sweet and adorable you are.
More soon, Baby Princess. You sleep tight.
Love,
Mommy
