New year, new me? Nope, same ol’ me with a little fine tuning. I never make any resolutions at the start of the year because I know as soon as I say it I break it. I did decide though that this
year I will embrace change. I will meet it head on. The only constant IS
change. Whether I’m ready or not, life is changing…

Binky. Pacy. Plug. Whatever you call it, I love it. In the beginning though I was totally against using a pacifier. I did all my research and I thought we could make it without it. After caving into the pressure and trying to find relief from a crying infant, I decided to try it, secretly hoping she wouldn’t like it. But she did and it became the cure for all crying fits.
The other day we went out for breakfast. Kenz no longer thinks it’s fun to sit and watch Mommy and Daddy eat.…

I love the fall. Leaves, cool crisp mornings, hot cocoa, made-from-scratch oatmeal! And I just love the approaching holiday season. The food, the lights, and just random acts of kindness. For Thanksgiving I usually go to my parent’s house and we eat until we pass out and then we watch movies all day. For Christmas, it’s the same thing except we have games to play and toys to put together for the little ones. With all the impending goodness, you’d think I’d be happy right? But what’s more…

Last week I attended the funeral for my Grandmother’s sister, my aunt. She had spent her life in New York, Maryland and Virginia. I wasn’t sure where the funeral might be held. Finally I got word that the funeral was going to be in New York, New York City that is. I immediately started thinking how I can attend the funeral in New York (I’m in Maryland), handle daycare and my SO’s schedule. I thought that we would all attend the funeral but we started thinking if Kenz would be able to handle it.…

I never had a baby shower for Kenz. Well, I had a small shower at work but there wasn’t one with family and friends (that’s another post for another day). We received a few gifts but we purchased a lot of items ourselves. Weekly trips to Wally World (WalMart) have yielded me play mats, toys, swings, and bunch of other things. Most of which I can’t even remember if I ever really used. My SO and I decided that it is time to put some of these things in storage and maybe, just maybe we might use…

At 7 months, Kenz has two little teeth peeking through. Right now they look more like grains of rice than teeth but oh I’m so happy. Between the onset of teeth and the changing weather it’s been me against the common cold. It just seems like Mother Nature is just all messed up. We’ve gone from short sleeves to long sleeves to no sleeves and now rain gear and coats. Oh Mother Nature make up your mind.. hot or cold!
Everyone walking (and crawling) in my house has been sick. Typically when…

I was in the bathroom at work and a co-worker who, for no good reason I have never spoken to, asked me if I just had a baby. It was completely out of the blue. I thought, well it’s been six months but I still consider myself a new mother so I answered, “Yes, my daughter is 6 1/2 months now”. To which she replied, “oh wow! It’s been that long, I remember when you were pregnant. We were just commenting on how you come to work so together, so refreshed.” I thought, “Wow, I just met my new best…

I recently read an article about the confessions of a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Before even reading it I thought it would be interesting to hear someone else’s perspective from the other side of the curtain. In the midst of the foolishness I read, these were her top gripes…Patients who don’t bathe, do not groom themselves before going to the hospital, haven’t educated themselves about the labor and delivery process, or ask for painkillers way too early. *pardon me while I rant for a…

At the beginning of the summer, my goal was to fit into my clothes from last summer. For me, this was a very lofty goal considering I hadn't stepped foot in a gym since way before I got pregnant. I’m just not a dieter. I eat healthy and in moderation, except when it comes pizza in which the "I'm full" switch turns completely off . For the most part, I am relatively healthy. If I had to make a weight loss goal, it would be to be able to cross my legs under a table and not have my hips knock…

It’s been about 3 months or so and we have finally settled into daycare. I can’t lie and say the guilt is gone but I can deal with it a little better. The teachers are great with her. I was skeptical about making a fuss over things in the beginning but I think he helped to build the mutual respect between the teachers and my SO and I. Kenz totally loves the activities they do every day from art projects, to play time, to a little safe fun in the sun on the playground.
In helping to…

Last week I suffered with extreme exhaustion. I kept thinking there was something in my day I had to change because there was no way I could continue like this. I tried doing everything at night so I wouldn't have much to do in the morning and would be able to sleep a little later. It helped for a day or so but I was still going to work tired and sore. UGH!.. so the next day I tried a nice hot shower right before bed and that helped but I still was tired in the morning. I changed bed time to 8…

Today I had to take Kenz back to the doctor for a follow up appointment. Afterwards we made our way to daycare. Now, I usually don’t do drop off so it was taking me forever to put things away and get her settled in. After finally getting her settled in, her teacher asked me if my SO (significant other) dresses her in the morning. I didn’t know where she was going with her question so I said, “uh, yeah sometimes. Well I dress her and if she has a blowout after I leave he will dress her.” To…

I’ve been wanting to blog all week but it has been a rough week. Not because I’ve had so much going on, but because I have been dog tired. I have no idea what’s gotten into me. I haven’t been this tired since…. Ummm.. well since I was pregnant! I just haven’t been able to keep my eyes open. I ride the commuter bus to work and it’s a nice cozy coach bus. The seats are comfy, the head rest is comfy, and with the AC set to just the right temp, it makes for the perfect ride. The moment I get on the…

For the last few days I have been on comfort duty. At just about 5 months, Kenz has caught her first cold. She had the sniffles for a day when she was three months but it was nothing like this. I’d like to blame it on daycare, but I think I have to take the blame for this one. My company had a picnic this past Saturday and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for my co-workers to meet Kenz. It was such a beautiful day. I dressed Kenz in a pretty pink dress with a little hat. It was…

The doc thought it would be best to start her on baby food - just some oatmeal, fruits, veggies - to help her stay full. I was against it, but I thought I'd give it a try and if I didn't like her reaction then we'd wait. Have you seen the type of cuisine they have for babies? Turkey and gravy, mac & cheese... all in a jar!. Now, she's too young for that stuff, but seriously, it's like Thanksgiving in a jar!
Well my SO and I decided to slow down the jar food and just get her to…

Sadly, I don’t have an interesting story about a one night stand.. but I can tell you all about the ONE night stand that I have on the side of my bed. It has been completely taken over by Kenz. I remember when I would go visit my friends who were new moms, the aroma of baby lotion, poopie diapers, and Similac would meet you at the door. All about the house would be sprinkles of new baby stuff like bulbs and pacifiers, toys and bibs… every surface of the house was completely covered. Of course…

The other day I had a “stay at home mom vs. working mom” debate with someone, a friend. A working mother herself. Well it wasn’t really a debate, more like a discussion. I couldn’t really take a side. Not that I don’t have an opinion on one versus the other, but I feel the two worlds are very different. My friend said that being a SAHM wasn’t a full time job. So I asked, well do you pay someone to watch your child? It is a full-time job to someone. I know I pay someone to watch my child. They…

I've been back at work for two weeks now. I started my daughter in daycare on a Monday and went back to work on a Wednesday. That gave me two days to check out how she would handle daycare. I was a wreck the first day but I knew I would be. Each day I went up there in the middle of the day just to see how she was. I was expecting her to be having a total fit and not wanting to be there.. of course she was just having a good ol' time. I… Continue

Oh Mother’s Day! How I have been waiting for you all my life! When I think of Mother’s Day, I think of all the red and pink construction paper cards I made for my mother with pictures of tulips. I think
of all the years my siblings and I vowed to do something special for my mother.
With 5 children, my mother got all that love times 5. I would think, “how lucky
is she, this has to be better than her birthday!”…

I remember last summer anticipating my maternity leave. I actually had a to-do list. Some of the things I had on my to-do list was to take an on-line class in something, create a family website to send updates on
the baby to the family, catch up on my magazines, just to name a few. So, in my
“spare” time, I managed to do none of those things *laughing*. It’s been three
months and now it’s time for me to return to work. It took me nearly two weeks
to pick…
