Toys that belong in the sixth circle of hell (and NOT my home)
My son has started his Christmas "I want" list and as I previously stated there are certain items that are a current no-no based on his age.
1) I'm nixing the Power Rangers and other "fighting" toys.
2)…

Going to the hospital to give birth may be unnecessary for some moms. Researchers say some second time moms are safe to consider giving birth at home.

Study: Babies smile and laugh in the womb
Your baby was probably born with a good sense of humor. A new study says babies begin to smile and laugh in the womb.
Researchers used an ultrasound camera to record the facial expressions of two babies in their respective wombs. The study, published in the PloS ONE journal, found that babies begin to form facial movements of laughter around the beginning of the second trimester. By the 34th week of pregnancy, the…

Happy Thanksgiving
Dear Baby Princess,
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!
Just a quick note today to recognize the holiday. I can't wait to spend four days with you! Tonight we are going to the GT-Siena basketball game at the Gwinnett Center (they are renovating the basketball stadium at Georgia Tech this season so the games are all relocated). I am sooooo excited that it's basketball…

ContinueMy sitter has been telling me that my 15-month old has been hitting, pushing, and throwing toys for the last few weeks, and last night I had the opportunity to see it for myself. I was blown away. He is apparently walking up to 4-year-olds and pushing them down. He takes toys right out of the other kids' hands, and when the sitter corrects him, he has an absolute fit! I watched him pick up a toy twice as big as him and throw it. He knocked over a big playhouse, pulled a box of…

French President says breastfeeding is 'a kind of slavery'
But he meant that in the nicest way possible you guys. French President and new father Nicolas Sarkozy recently spoke to a group of young mothers, and when the topic of breastfeeding came up, he had this to say: "I think it's much better for all allergies, all diseases. But for women, it is both a great joy and also a kind of slavery."
Sarkozy's wife is breastfeeding their new…

New ultrasound technology could help reduce c-sections
How does a woman find out she's going to have to have a c-section? Well, her doctor usually makes the decision. But how does a doctor know? Bioengineer Sergio Casciaro was surprised to learn that doctors were determining whether to perform c-sections the old fashioned way - feeling and using their own judgement.
Determined to update labor and delivery to 21st century technology, Casciaro invented…

Banished to the back - are some airlines creating baby ghettos?
Traveling families be ye forwarned - airlines are getting a lot less family-friendly. Some travelers say certain airlines have an agenda against babies, banishing them to the back of airplanes.
One D.C. dad Michael Lyon arrived to the airport only to find that his 6-year-old son had been moved to the back of the plane to travel by himself in a 13-hour flight. United…

Moms petition against sexist Gymboree onesies
Gymboree's in the hot seat with a lot of parents for what they say are harmless gender-specific onesies - a pink one for girls that says "Pretty Like Mommy," and another for boys that reads "Smart Like Dad."
For the record, Gymboree also sells a "Handsome Like Daddy" shirt, but there's no "Smart Like Mommy" onesie in sight.
Critics of the onesies believe they are promoting retro gender roles - girls are supposed to be pretty, boys are supposed to be smart. As Ashley at…
