To all working moms that are hiring babysitters and nannies! Now-a-days we need to be extra careful who we leave our little ones with. It is VERY important to run background checks.
I work for criminalscreening.com and recommend you run a background check on anyone you are considering hiring to care for your child.

My son is only 3, so he doesn't know what's going on, even though I listen to a little NPR in the morning and they've been talking about it. So, so sad.

Jamie- I completely understand where you are coming from. I do so much better behind the scenes rather than having to be a rep for a company and deal w/ people up front. I get very stressed w/ this type of stuff too... so much so that I've had to take medication for anxiety at different points in my life. I am currently very happy where I'm at, but I know I am capable of making probably double the salary I make now. Your happniness is very important... if you are not happy w/ your job, what kinda life is that? Of course, I know you don't want it to interfere w/ being able to provide for your family either so it's kinda like a double edge sword. Definitely consider other positions (even if it is a pay cut) and write it all down on paper to see what you can manage financially. Right now, the current situation works for us b/c my husband makes pretty good money, I work 5 minutes from home (not much of a gas expense), and we get a pretty good deal on babysitting b/c my being local means the kids are only at sitters from 8am-5pm (around here, the Washington metro area, it's pretty common for kids to be stuck at the babysitters for 10-12 hours a day b/c of the terrible traffic!). So, see what other aspects you can work with in regards to finances (or maybe working locally to save on gas?) to help make up for whatever decrease in pay you may have to take? Good luck :)
Comment by JamieMcC on October 24, 2012 at 8:40am Hi ladies,
My role with my company changes quite a bit - maybe every 6 months. I work for a small start-up company (less than 50 people) in a booming industry. We just had another re-org and I am absolutely miserable. My new role is very client focused and involves numerous meetings with them daily. I have a feeling, this role is for the long run. To be honest, I'd rather go back to my days of being a worker bee behind my desk, getting things done, and not speaking to clients daily. (I get nervous before every convo which means I am stressed out pretty consistently.) So, I have an opportunity with another company in my industry (there aren't many), but it's not a senior level position. I have a feeling I'm going to have to take a pretty big pay cut for a position like this, but it's exactly what I am good at, and pretty low stress. Of course, I could be creating more stress within my family if I take such a big pay cut. I'm not sure what I'm asking for here. Obviously, I need to find out how much of pay decrease it will be and weigh my options and do what's best for my family and myself. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has went through anything similar and if you'd be willing to share your story. Thanks!
