Hey everyone!  My name is Tiffany and my son was born June 3, 2010.  I was wondering if you all had started your babies on any type of table food (besides baby food) and regular milk.  My son is in daycare and just moved up to the next infant class because he is now crawling and pulling himself up.  I was told that all the kids in his new class are now eating regular food (cut into small pieces) and drinking milk.  I was a little concerned because I thought you were supposed to wait a year before introducing cow's milk.  I also wasn't sure if he would be ready to eat regular table food yet.  I guess it's something we could start trying, but I was just curious what other people were doing??

My son Vincent was born June 12th and has been eating table food since around January. He loves it and prefers it over the baby food. I haven't given him any milk yet and am not sure about that....
Hi Tiffany. My daughter (6/18) has been munching on table food for almost 2 months now but never had baby food. At first I used a mill to give her whatever we were eating, now she eats small cubes from her tray - peas, carrots, chicken, etc. She is just learning to use a sippy cup as she's never had a bottle either. All babies have their own schedule. Ease in to it - take clues from your son as to what his interest level is and what may be good for him. With my son (who is now 4) I waited until he was a year before introducing cow's milk. What you should keep in mind is that he is yours and nobody should pressure you into introducing things you - and he - are not ready for. Have you tried the line of finger snacks made for crawlers? Gerber and various store brands are good to promote self-feeding and using the pincher fingers. Good luck and dont listen to the day care... they want what is easiest for them, not what is in the best interest of your son. Do what works for you. Best of luck!
I'm also waiting until 1 year to do cow's milk and the daycare should too! Just because he's crawling doesn't mean that he should get cow's milk yet. The recommendation is 1 year. As far as table food goes, try really small pieces of the baby food he already eats. Some kids adjust easily, others not so much. You'll want to try it at home before they do it at the daycare so that you can warn them if he has trouble with it! We do lots of fruits cut up really small such as bananas, strawberries, and blueberries because our daughter loves picking up food by herself. Sometimes they're too slippery and she needs help, but she loves trying!
hi..my son (June 29) has been eating table food for qiute some time now. Every baby is different. As for the cow milk...my son is still nursing and WIC suggested that i start introducing cows milk. Just a little bit a day. Your pediatrician would be the best person to talk to.

Hi Tiffany,

My son was born June 15th, 2010. He has been eating some table food along with baby food and formula. I am not going to introduce cows milk to him until after 1 year (which is coming up.) Some table food that he likes are ripe bananas. Really steamed veggies. Steamed apples. Little crackers. I read that anything that disolves in water is usually a good table food to start with since it will help them to not choke. Hope this helps. Also, don't let your daycare dictate how you raise or feed your child. :)

My son has been eating table food since 6 months old when he started crawling. I started introducing cows milk at 11 months, just a little a day.  He stil gets mostly formula (stopped nursing at 9 months).  I want him to go straight to regular milk on his first birthday so this is what we are doing. I agree with the other posters, you should ask your dr.  It is recommended that you dont introduce until 1 year, but its your son so you do what you feel is best.
Thanks for all the comments everyone!  My son has been eating table food for a couple months now and has done very well with it.  He actually started rejecting most baby food once he started eating regular food.  Last weekend, I started mixing his bottles half formula/half cows milk to get him used to it.  He's done very well with that also, and doesn't seem to know the difference.  I would also like to switch him over completely to cows milk around his first birthday or not long after.
