ADHD/ADDIVA'S

For moms coping with ADD/ADHD. I have found that there are many sites out there that offer help to parents raising children that have ADD/ADHD but not as many options for moms who have this disorder themselves. I hope this will offer some guidance.

i was diagnosed with adhd since i was around 5 or 6 yrs old. i stopped taking the meds on my own when i was 15 and haven't been on anything since.. but now doctors think i should start taking anxiety pills cuz its getting harder and harder to keep everything together... could it be that my adhd is acting up again?

Hey, I'm Leslie. I have ADD but I'm not medicated. My mom said since I can cope with it on my own I don't need it. And quite frankly, I agree with her. I hate taking medicine. But unfortunately, since my delivery didn't go so good I'm on four different types of medicine, iron, and I still have to take my prenatal vitamins. >.< But my baby is worth it.

Denise, Depression is a very serious condition and I strongly recommend getting yourself back on track! Your baby deserves a mommy who feels like being a mommy. I think its wonderful your desire to breastfeed as they say breast is best but I think you should consider your health and how the way you feel will effect your little one more than the benefits of breastmilk. Does tha t make sense? lol.... I know I would be a basketcase w/out my meds and my baby would thank me for making the choices I made...

I couldnt imagine making it thru the day without my meds! You are one tough cookie! I was unaware of my pregnancy until I was 5 1/2 months and had taken my meds as prescribed. I have meds for add, depression, anxiety, insomnia and blood pressure. Needless to say I was EXTREMELY concerned about the development of my baby since I had no prenatal care and was on all that medication. I seen a fetal specialist immediately at the University of Iowa Hospital (one of the best hospitals in the nation) and thank God everything was normal and the baby was progressing as normal. It was kind of funny because during my 3d/4d ultrasound the baby was practically doing summersalts! The doc said "she's a energetic lil' thing, everything looks fine!" The doctor recommended that I only stop taking the anxiety medicine, and reduce my mgs of add meds. He thought it would be more harmful for me to stop taking the meds abruptly and since I was already thru my 1st and 2nd trimester, any harm that could have been done would have already been done. My Madalie was born at 35 weeks (induced because of pre-eclampsia) and weighed in at 5 lbs 5.5oz and born at 5:05 pm. She was small but healthy as could be. I was unable to breastfeed because of my meds :o( but she was given Similac Special Care Formula until 6 months of age to help her gain weight. My lil chunk is now in the 97th percentile weighing in at 25 lbs at her 9mo check up! Needless to say... she is quite healthy! If you ever wanna share advice or share ideas feel free to email me! Good luck!

I am a mother with add. I have not been on my meds since my pregnancy and since I am breastfeeding, still not on them. Its very diffucult when you cant seem to get "IT" together. From showering, housework, eating...I really need help. I know its hard enough with a new baby, but when you have add, its completey overwhelming! But one things forsure...I LOVE my sweet-angel, so the housework will have to wait!! :)
