My son was born 8/7/2011 and at 3 weeks old I woke up to see he wasn't breathing. He went to the hospital by me but they couldn't do anything for him there so they transferred him to another one. While he was transferred, I was being questioned by cops about abuse, and I would never do anything to my little boy. When I finally got to the hospital I was told he was getting a MRI done. A few hours later I finally got to see him and the doctors told me he had brain damage that was caused medically somehow. They told me he might die or if he lived he would be very limited on what he could possibly do. So for 5 months we were in the hospital and as time went by my son surprised all his doctor's and nurses by improving and doing things they said he might not be able to do. Now he's 1 year old and in a medical home and he's at the stage of a 6 month old or so. And during this whole thing he was always smiling and laughing, nothing seemed to bother him at all. And from the looks of how he is now, the damage he has might not affect anything he does when he's older. He's learning how to clap and can wave and he loves it when I practice walking with him. He's such an amazing little boy, even with the tubes he has he never lets anything get him down <3

Wow.  That's great news.  Glad to hear your little one's future is looking up.  He sounds like a strong little boy indeed.  Prayers for continued improvement and for strength for you, too, Mama.

Thank you so much

While it must have been awful to go through that, it's wonderful he is doing so well. Keep up the good work. He sounds like a special little guy.

It was pretty awful but playing with him and seeing him smile made everything worth it.

WTG JT! My step-daughter was cerebal palsy. The Dr say it was lack of oxygen when born and caused brain damage. She finally took a few steps at 14. Multiple surgeries and therapy but Dr's said she'd never walk. Speaking with a child neurologist in Dallas, TX he said the brain will learn to compensate for the areas damaged. He gave examples of ppl who have accomplished great this after complications. Don't give up or believe that Dr's are 100% right. It may take longer to accomplish things but our bodies do amazing things. I have faith that he will eventually get there.

Thank you! I'm sorry to hear she has that, but I am glad to hear she's doing good. I think he had lack of oxygen too but now he's fine on that part. A neurologist here told me that with babies, their brain cells can actually work around the damage and that they can function completely normal or almost normal. He's already getting the hang on what walking is, he just can't support his wieght and the wight on his trach and ventilator. But thank you so much for sharing that about your step daughter, I hope she continues to make progress and never give up

YAY for your boy!! Hope he will keep surprising you. Prayers for him and your family.
