Which do you prefer? Has anyone used both, to be able to compare them? I just got a sling, but always imagined I'd want a Moby. I'm not due till November, though.

I've seriously got at least 100 miles on my Ergo, though. I have a bunch of slings, but only used them each about twice. Neither of my kids liked being in the sling. They both preferred being in the Ergo, too. :)
Permalink Reply by Bethany Ann, Star Mom on July 20, 2012 at 8:41pm Is the Ergo for infants too? Since I'm due in November, I plan on doing a lot of walking around the malls and indoor places to jumpstart getting back in shape, so my 2 year old will be occupying the stroller for the most part. I always thought Ergo carriers were for babies who could sit up better!
Permalink Reply by Jen, Mom365 Host on July 20, 2012 at 11:04pm Ergos are perfect for infants. I started carrying my daughter in the Ergo right away. They make an infant insert, but you can just as easily use a rolled up receiving blanket. If you put baby on your chest, all snuggled up with arms and legs bent like they like to be, then put the insert or receiving blanket around them, then put on the Ergo, it's awesome.
It's expensive, but you can use it until they're well into toddlerhood. My daughter is 17 months, and I still use it when I don't want my daughter to wander off. She hates being in the stroller, but will put her head on my chest and be happy when she's in the Ergo.
If you check Mamabargains or Babysteals they will have discounted Ergos from time to time. There's also craigslist. But if you know you're going to use it, it's not really that expensive in the long run.
Permalink Reply by dentalgirl on July 21, 2012 at 8:53am Bethany, I have a brand new Ergo I bought when A was one, I think I used it once. I paid $115 for it. I can sell it to you for much cheaper if you want it? If we have another I'm gonna buy a Boba organic carrier. PAN on FB if you are interested!
Permalink Reply by skylark97 on July 21, 2012 at 2:34pm I have both an ergo and a Moby. The moby I didn't get until my daughter was around 4 months, and I was kicking myself, wishing I'd gotten it earlier. It's perfect for a winter baby because it does keep them right up against you. It ended up being too hot for baby and me when the weather got warmer. (Someone else on this site though, helpfully pointed this out to me: http://www.rookiemoms.com/how-to-make-a-moby-wrap/ ...I imagine that if you look at clearance fabrics at JoAnns you could easily make your own for a great deal cheaper than purchasing a brand new one.) It really is perfect for newborns. If you get one, though, I definitely recommend watching the how to videos on how to put them on and then practicing a couple of times with a sack of potatoes before attempting it with baby. I think one of the videos or the website said that whether or not babies are comfortable in slings, the moby or carriers really has a lot to do with how confident the mom is in using it and that ended up being very true for me.
I think I tried to get by daughter into the Ergo when she was a newborn by swaddling, but she was just so stinking long that it was awkward. I will say that I'm still getting a lot of mileage out of the ergo though. Especially since I didn't have one of those infant carrier car seats. Once she could hold her head up on her own, I could drive somewhere, strap her on, and then be able to shop hands free. It was easier than trying to take along a stroller in the winter time and it was something I could manage without having to have another adult around to help. The ergo also was easier to put on in the car. The moby is so long that when I did go out with that and put her in it, I had to make sure I left the house already wearing it because it was just impossible to try and put it on in the car.
I am having such a problem getting my 11 week old baby boy in any carrier. Is there a trick I can use, he loves to be held but the minute he is strapped in he screams bloody murder. I have a britax and an evenflow, both make him uneasy. anyone else have trouble with the carriers?
