Just wanted to know if any one has had the flu while being pregnant and what did you do.

I am 7 months pregnant and I think I have the flu.  Currently have body aches, sore throat, a little headache, coughing up yellow mucus.  No temperature.  Currently taking Tylenol multi symptom cold and flu. and alternating with Tylenol extra strength.  I should have taken the flu shot.  but no use crying over spilled milk.  just trying to deal with it now.

If you have had any experience that would help.

Thanks everyone :)

I actually had the flu with both of mine. My doc did a rapid test to see if I had the flu then prescibed me tamiflu and within 24 hrs all symptoms were gone.Make sure you drink extra fluids and watch your blood pressure cause the tylenol cold and flu could raise it.

Thanks for the tip, I'm feeling better. Still have a sore throat and coughing.  So I dont know if i should go to the doctor or not.  The reason why I'm hesitant to go to the doctor is because I'm actually on vacation and my insurance only covers visits to the ER.  Will continue to drink lots of fluid. :)

I got the flu two weeks before my due date. It was awful. I have an arrhythmia, and the combination of the flu and being hugely pregnant with an almost 10 lb baby was too much for my heart. I was hospitalized for 4 days when my heart rate was steadily at 170. Normal is around 65-75.

I was given Tamiflu, antibiotics, and IV fluids. Eventually my heart rate went down, and thankfully my daughter was born healthy two weeks later.

Since you're feeling a little better, it's probably a cold and not the flu. The flu is wicked. I hope you feel better soon, but just in case, you might want to let your OB know that you're sick. Definitely continue to drink lots of water. Take it easy until you're feeling 100% (or at least the equivalent of 100% for being 7 months pregnant...)!

I got the flu twice while i was pregnant my doctor just told me to drink plenty of fluids if possible as to not get dehydrated.

Thanks, I've been wondering about if I should go to the ER.  I've been coughing up phelgm and having sore throat. Been sipping warm water and gargling with salt as well.  hopefully it goes away soon.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

1 Benadryl at bedtime is what my doctors had me take, it will help with your sore throat and help to subside(dry up) the phelgm.

Texted you earlier (go see!) but dude, your post was actually in the little email newsletter that they send out! That's how I saw it here! XD So I'm sure you'll get some great info on it. =) I'll just repeat anyway since I'm not sure if I told you before. I did too about a month or so before giving birth and I actually went to the ER because it developed as we were sleeping and I was getting up in the middle of the night getting aches, fever, and I was starting to shiver and feel cold no matter if I had blankets on or not. He was worried about me and the little boy so he took us in the middle of the night and they also gave me, as another has mentioned, Tamiflu and to drink and rest up. I think I only took regular Tylenol to help with the fever since when you're pregnant there's certain things you're not suppose to take or take little of. And I agree with another that you should let your OB know ASAP that you're sick so that they can put it in their records and check on you when you get back if they feel you need to be. It could be about a week before you feel 100%. That was about as long for me. Keep at it with the water and salt water and drinking and resting! Just no tea. ^^; I'm a text/call away if you need to. =)
