It was 2 wks b4 my daughters 2nd bday & I had tried cutting the ends off & all that she didn't care I had always rocked her to sleep in the living room one nite I told her she was going to b a big girl & we didnt need binky anymore I asked her to pick out a book & we went & laid down in her bed & read no more binky she luved it too thought it would b a nightmare to get rid of bcuz she never had a security blanket our anything it was all about the binky! Good luck hope all goes well
when my first daughter was born I gave her a pacifier and she would take it once in a while when she was like 2 to 3 months she loved it she would even cry when it would fall out, when my daugther was 7months we moved in with my husband his not the kind of dad thats like thats cute is a jerk so I like it and I would let my baby have it so when she had turned 1years old we were leaving and her didnt want her with it and he just take it out of my babys mouth and throw it and I was mad.my baby cryed but I just gave her her sippy cup and she stop crying she was a very good baby tha I really didnt have trouble with thank god..now with my other lil girl she hated it and I wish that she would of used one but I had no luck with this one:(.
I started to wean my son at 6 months, and 3 weeks later he was off it. I never had any issues. At about 4 months I started to only give him the paci at nap or bedtime. So all day he didnt need it. Then at 6 months I started nap by nap taking it away. He would fuss, but id give him a toy to "pacify" him. Then at nighttime, when he'd fall asleep, Id go in and get it so he couldnt put it back in his mouth, only a few times did he wake up and cry, but he went back to bed, think the longest cry was for 10 minutes. This is also when I started to put more and more toys in his crib! Then eventually I didnt even give it to him, out of sight out of mind too! So the whole process took 3 weeks but we have been pacifier free since September and I love it!  Good Luck!

My older son was not that attached, and he gave it up easily before age 2. My 2.5-year-old is WAY ATTACHED and right now my gameplan is to try and gradually wean him off so that it's gone by his third birthday.

Check back in with me in October to see how this plan goes. :P

I have to update—we ended up dropping the binky cold turkey last week!

I went out Thursday night and left the boys with a sittter. As I was about to head out (right before bedtime), I realized there was NO binky in the house! They all must have ended up at grandma's (she watches my 2.5-year-old during the day). The sitter, who happens to be a good friend of mine, was like, don't worry—we'll deal. And he went to sleep with just a little protesting. So I decided that was it! He's asked for it a few times (with minimal tears) but is easily redirected/calmed without it.

This is a huge, total relief for me!!
