In the early weeks after giving birth, breastfeeding will stimulate the uterus to contract. It feels very much like cramps when you have your period. This is actually one of the benefits of breastfeeding since it speeds up the process of shrinking the uterus back to it's pre-pregnancy size (and helping us fit into our jeans sooner ;)). Maybe this is what you are experiencing.
maybe, but i actually feel like vomiting when i feed her.
So I read that it may be related to the hormone oxytocin which is released during let down. Did you have morning sickness? Try the same types of remedies to see if they help. Stay well hydrated and well fed, and maybe have a glassof OJ or a snack while you feed her.
Thanks!! :)
Is it strictly a physical sensation? Because there is a recognized emotional component that some women experience (negative feelings, etc): http://www.d-mer.org/

I hope the stomach issue doesn't last—that can't be pleasant for you. :(
i wouldn't say i've felt close to vomiting, but i definitely have felt a little "eh" while nursing - especially first thing in the morning. i will say the feeling has gotten weaker as i've nursed longer, but i definitely know what you mean. no idea what causes it, but i always thought it had something to do with the calories being burned b/c to me it felt the same as when i workout on too empty a stomach.
Yep, I have this too. Sort of like a twinge of nausea. It was much worse when my daughter was younger. She's 7 months now. It is briefly discussed in The Nursing Mother's Companion. They say it is biological, not psychological, and is thought to be "a gastric hormonal response to suckling." It might help to make sure you eat something before nursing. The book also says that it gets better once breastfeeding is established - like I said, that was true for me. Hope this helps!
i read about it online and i think its the hormone oxytocin thats released when your breastfeeding. Same thing that causes morning sickness. even if i eat i still get it. but im getting used to it now so its not bothering me as much.
My stomach did't hurt (except for the uterus contracting in the first few weeks), but I still get a mild headache right at the beginning of nursing or pumping. My son is going to be 5 months old in just a few days, and it still happens every time.
i also have symptoms of nausea when i breastfeed, it is strange (so i thought), i could be slightly hungry before i begin and all thoughts of eating go straight out the window. glad i am not the only one with these symptoms
yeah thats exactly how i feel to
I thought I was the only one with this "weird" symptom! I have found it is worse for me when I am not drinking enough water.
