I am 23 weeks pregnant. A few weeks ago, I had a filling fall out. I called a dentist to make an appointment, but all places I called have at least a two month wait until I can be seen. For the past week I have had a headache that stems from the tooth and goes around my right eye, into my temple, down my jaw and into the back of my neck. It's constant, I sleep terrible, Tylenol does not help at all, and it's not just a stress headache so it won't go away on it's own. This morning I burst into tears because the pain is just miserable and it's hard to concentrate or get anything done because of it.
Do you have any natural headache remedies for this type of headache? I found an urgent dental care today but they are closed, as it's Sunday, so I can't call them until tomorrow and I don't know when they'll be able to see me. Praying I don't need a root canal!
I have no ideas. I hope somebody has something to add!
Would a hot pack or an ice pack help? I hope it's better today!
I haven't tried a hot pack or ice pack, but that's a good idea! My husband went out and got Anbesol, so as long as I keep my tooth good and numb, the headache is mostly gone! Not really the natural remedy I was looking for, but I don't ingest it luckily. I have a call into the Urgent Dental care, but apparently my situation isn't urgent enough to see me right away! Makes no sense because an infection in the teeth can be very bad when pregnant!
I would honestly just lie and say the side of your face is swelling just to get in and be seen (I don't think they'd send you back home after you get all the way there). You are right, an infection can be very bad when pregnant... my fiance got an infection (1/2 his filling fell out and it left a jagged edge which cut into the side of his mouth), he let it go a couple days and it got terrible overnight. Not to scare you, but if you see swelling on your face starting or if the tooth cuts inside your mouth at all, demand an appt! Maybe you could even say you think it has a jagged edge and you are scared it will cut you... I would say whatever I had to at this point to be seen. Gosh, I wish you lived around here... our dentists would never turn you down for something like this (this would even be an emergency after hours app. for a pregnant person!). I have heard cucumber directly on the tooth can temporarily help. I really feel for you... I haven't been through it, but I have seen how nutty it can make a person from the terrible pain!
Thanks ladies...I went to the Urgent Dental Care today. I figured it'd be better to go in person instead of on the phone. They got me in, and the dentist pulled the tooth. He said it was pointless to do a root canal because half the tooth had decayed. Apparently when I got the filling years ago, it was a bad filling, and that's why there was so much damage to the tooth. I had wondered because I take good care of my teeth, so it was crazy to think I had a rotted tooth! Now I'm in some pain from having it pulled, but no headache! The dentist said pulling the tooth will clear out the infection, i can take tylenol 3 for the pain. Hopefully that's the end of that!
