I say this because my nephew went through this exact experience. At about 2 years old he was complaining of stomach pains, so it being the weekend my sister took him in to ER. The xray showed a shadow... days later, after the pediatrician reviewed the xray he saw the shadow was not normal. Further xrays revealed a tumor the size of an adult fist just behind his heart. He immediately went in for surgery to remove the tumor. The test did reveal that it was cancerous- neuroblastoma. By the grace of God, that tumor never attached to any vital organs nor did it spread to any other part of his body. It is actually very common that if neuroblastoma is found early on in childhood it can be completely treated and the child can go on to live a normal, healthy life. Of course, many children can develop a tumor and it can be completely cancer free as well. No matter the outcome, just remember there is a reason you were so persistent, a reason this was found early on... b/c your son is meant to live a long, happy, healthy, thriving life. So, stay positive and strong! My nephew is now 7 years old, goes in for screenings once a year... but he's been completely cancer/tumor free since that terrible scare!

I'm so sorry you're all going through this, but glad it was caught now and not when things had gotten even worse. Hopefully the surgery corrected everything, and the tumor doesn't grow back.
What a brave mom you are! Your son is so lucky to have you. I will be praying for his continued recovery and for a healthy life for him from here on out.
Permalink Reply by JT'sMom on August 17, 2012 at 2:31pm I am so sorry to hear that he had that problem. I hope he's doing better now! But I am able to completely understand how you felt with all that. My lil boy was in the hospital for 5 months and had mulitple MRI's done and such. But I am very glad to hear that he was all smiles and such. It's amazing how when we freak out, they act like nothing is wrong. You are a very smart and strong mother, wish you and your son all the best
