I brestfeed my daughter and had my first period when she was about 7 1/2 months old. Before pregnancy my cycles were always exactly 28 days. Today is day 31 and no period. I had some cramping on days 26&27. I took a HPT and blood test on day 27 and both were negative. Any brestfeeding mommas not on birth control have a similar experience??

I'm still breastfeeding my daughter, and my cycles are not back to normal yet. I got my period back 6 months ago, but they're very close together (like every 20 or 21 days) and very light. It's annoying!
Test again if you haven't gotten anything by next week. Chances are you just ovulated a little later than usual. The hormones from nursing can do weird things to our bodies.

I would think that if you took a test and it was negative that you wouldn't be prego, but those test are sometimes not correct. If you are cramping it could be bowl problems or your cycle trying to start. Don't stress too much because that can delay it more and mess with your milk.
Like Jen said, the hormones while nursing are like no other. I'd wait till next weekend and re-test if nothing has changed. If the cramping gets pretty bad you might want to go to the Dr and have your white blood cells checked. It could be an infection causing pain.
Permalink Reply by NYDiva on September 3, 2012 at 9:41am Thanks ladies. The cramping was just slight. It could have just been GI stuff. It wasn't that bad but it was right around when it should have started so I thought that was it. Oh well. I'm not too stressed about it. Just kinda curious. This is my first time around in the mommy world so it's all new.
I'm still breastfeeding and my periods came back 5 months ago, but they haven't been regular yet. One month it comes right about 3 weeks apart, the next month I might not have one at all. This month I've felt like I was going to start for a week, but it shouldn't even be due for 5 more days. I just quit worrying about it. Breastfeeding messes with your hormones as jen said. Don't worry too much and just go with the flow :) Good luck and God bless!
