How do you keep your baby happy while you're beating the heat?

It's too hot to play outdoors or take the baby for a stroller outing.  What do you do to keep your baby entertained?

We play in the shower sometimes. :)
I bring his activity center outside on the patio and run the hose on the bottom tray of it. He loves to splash his feet in the water and it keeps him cool while we watch the big kids play.
cold water on the high chair tray.
We play in the baby pool outside in the shade. However, it is so hot and humid being above 100 degrees here that we can't go outside and there has been water and heat advisories. We have been playing in the bathtub and playing with toys inside. I have even tried some Baby Einstein dvds since he is 3 months. He seems to like what we have been doing so far. I think if he was older he would be able to play more inside.
I get a spray bottle and fill it with ice-cubes and water and mist her car-seat before we get into the car. If you put it on fine mist it won't dampen the car-seat, just cool it down.
This is a fantastic idea!  Love it!
I love this! The air conditioning is broken in my car so I have all the windows down, but her seat is still so hot, half the time I'll wedge a blanket in there and be careful not to let the metal buckle touch her. But I'm going to keep this in mind because that would really help!
i bought a hand held fan that me or my husband will sit in the back abd keep on her till it's cool in the car.
I do this as well. It seems to keep him cooled off.

I have kept my indoor-outdoor slide in the family room, have his tricycle inside as well.

What also worked great was changing location of where we play each day, we play in different rooms each day, then i bought a lot of arts and crafts supplies as well. Kids get really amazed and amused by all this stuff, just make sure you are watching them closely as some of these can be choking hazard.

Also, try to separate all his toys in differnet bins/tupperware and empty each out slowly play and then 'clean-up' with him and put all of them back slowly while you name all the objects and also make stories around the objects/toys you are taking out or putting back. I have 5 such bins, one each for stuffed toys, one for cars/trucks, one for animals, one for books, one for all his balls etc. and it takes about an hour with each bin. And you can do it over and over everyday thats the best part.

We have a clip-on fan in the car that plugs into our cigarette lighter.  We clip it on the handle above the door, and that helps her in the car since she's still rear-facing.  She loves water, too, so however it's appropriate to give your little ones water to play with is great - even just a drippy hose for them to put their hands in - it's one of our favorite things!

When we stay home, there are various things my 10-month-old and I do together. We read library books, play in his PeaPod filled with balls; dance and listen to all kinds of music; blow and pop bubbles using Seventh Generation dish soap; make hand- and foot-print cards using beet or blueberry juice for the grandparents; have videochats with our family; set up towers of cans, yogurt containers and milk cartons for him to knock down; practice going up and down the stairs, do some Itsy Bitsy yoga moves. We don't do all of those things every day though. I would die of exhaustion. Often he's just happy throwing a ball and chasing it around the room, or shredding tissue. I should consider ebaying my paper shredder and tell him to take care of all of my old financial statements and protect me from identity theft. That should be his contribution to the household ;-)

Sometimes we have to go out. When those trips out into the heat and humidity are unavoidable, I pack 5 things in my "hot-weather supplies bag" before tossing into the stroller basket:

- travel-sized mist/spray bottle filled with water that I sometimes refrigerate for ~1 hour before leaving the house;

- battery-operated travel-sized fan

- mosquito repellent, or those bug repellent bands (1 for me, 1 for baby)

- sunblock

- sippy cup filled with water and a couple of ice cubes

I usually already have packed a muslin sheet (old swaddling blanket) for nursing, or a makeshift picnic blanket. This also comes in handy for draping over the top of the stroller. The white color deflects some of the heat and gives baby a little shade. Even though my stroller has a pretty extensive canopy, my baby's feet always poke out. (His feet are a darker shade of brown than the rest of him!)
