I was curious as to what people out here are naming their daughters these days. I have a good idea based on all of the little girls that friends have or the ones at my sons daycare. My husband and I already have a name picked out for our second child, a girl - Charlotte. It's not on any Top 10 List anywhere, so I think people are a little dumbfounded or something....I say this based on some reactions we've been getting. It seems to be girl season right now and I was just wondering if everyone is naming their daughters the same things or what people have in mind.
It does seem like there are a lot of little Sophias, Avas, Lillys, and Maddys out there, but that's pretty normal; names have always become popular and ubiquitous (think of all the Jennifers and Debbies of the 70s, the Jessicas of the 80s, the Samanthas of the 90s). I just checked the SSA site, and Charlotte is #27, so popular, but you probably won't have another one on your block. Everyone always has an opinion on baby names but you have to choose the one you like, sounds like you've already done that :) You can look up names here: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/#ht=1
We don't like names that have ever been in the top 100. My daughter is 18 months old, and we named her Adelaide Maybelle. Adelaide is a name we knew but had never considered until we were watching a TV show with a character named Adelaide. My husband just said he liked the name, and I did, too. We had already decided the middle name would be Maybelle after my grandmother. When I said the names together it all clicked into place.
Originally we were thinking of naming her Mae Belle, but we didn't love it.
As for Charlotte, that is my niece's name. She just turned 3. It's a popular name around here. Lots of Charlottes in and around Boston. Though 2 of my friends just gave birth to girls in July and they both named their daughters Scarlett.
I think charlotte is a sweet a name..i like it. I just had my first baby 4 months ago...a girl. We named her Aubrie....we didnt look at a list...now the name is getting pretty popular though :/...oh well we still like it :)
I love the name Charlotte... Its a classic name that is not too dated... i think you made a great choice. My daughter is Molly Lorraine. In my family the tradition is for the first daughter to be an ML initials... I am Melissa (aka Misty) Lorraine and my mother is Mary Lou... I named her Lorraine after my boyfriend's grandmother who raised him, not after me though... so she has a little of both families there... :-)
