I just got back from my Dr. appointment (I am 37 weeks)and I showed him this hard spot on my stomach right below my belly button that hurts really bad to the touch and when I asked him about it he was like "oh Ive never seen that before" so he went and got another dr, which said the same thing. I have had it for about a month but this past week it has spread and hurts worse. It looks like a bunch of bumps and the lady dr said it could be edema or just a build up of water. Just wondering if any one else has had anything like this. It is very painful and when I press it it stays indented for a little while before raising back up. I had pre-eclamsia with my first son and currently have gestational diabetes. I was just wondering if any one else had something similar to this, my doctor rushed out on me so fast today I did not get to ask him any questions (he had a dr's appointment to go to :/) Thank y'all!

Permalink Reply by martha avalos on August 29, 2012 at 12:39am If you notice itchy red bumps or welts on your belly and possibly your thighs and buttocks as well, you may have a condition called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP for short).

Up to one percent of pregnant women develop PUPPP, which is harmless but can be quite uncomfortable. See your practitioner so she can make sure it's not a more serious problem, provide treatment to make you more comfortable, and refer you to a dermatologist if necessary. Also be sure to call her if you feel intense itchiness all over your body, even if you don't have a rash. It could signal a liver problem.
