I see all these posts about mothers being able to pump 8-11oz even after the baby feeds off of them. I can barely get 2-3 oz each time I pump and that's before the baby feeds of the breast. I'm taking fenugreek and feed the baby on the chest every chance I get. Is there something more that I can be doing to increase the milk production?

Yes I was told by mother -in- law that oatmeal helps & it does it help me wit my second baby that is 1 yrs old now I hope this helps eat some 4 breakfast & a blow 4 lunch & a glass or milk.
Sorry that's a glass of milk .

I agree 100%...:) Oatmeal helps a lot

Thank you! I have been eating one bowl of oatmeal a day since Tuesday and I have already seen a change in production. I will definately start eating 2 bowls a day and see if that helps anymore.

i could never pump 8-11 oz i exclusively breast fed and after i fed her i could get 3-5 oz with the hospital pump but with the store bought ones i would get 1-2 oz the baby gets the milk out better than a pump feed your baby than pump after each feeding AND increase feeding time i breastfed 20 min on each breast than pumped for 5 min each side after and after a couple days your supply should increase dont get stressed and think your baby is starving just because you cant pump much keep a log for a few days of how many wet and soiled diapers he gets each day to make sure he is gertting enough tr contact lactation they can weight baby before a feeding and after to make sure he is getting enough.

Thank you! I had thought about increasing feeding times but the pediatrician didn't want me feeding longer than 15 minuets. Since I have started eating oatmeal and feeding longer I have noticed an increase in production.
Why did your pediatrician want to limit it to 15 minutes? That is horrible advice! If you're having problems w/ supply you don't limit the time at the breast.
Try searching "low supply" on KellyMom.com and you'll get some good tips.

It may not be a production thing.  It might be a let-down thing.  I never had much luck pumping, so I only did it when absolutely necessary (I was home for the first year), but the only thing that worked for me was to put the baby on one breast and pump the other at the same time.  It helped the milk let-down, and I got so much more milk at a faster rate than I ever did when I pumped without the baby nursing.

Thank you! I will need to try pumping while that baby feeds on one side. I am having to supplement and I would much rather supplement with breastmilk than formula but I wasn't having much luck pumping. Thank you for the info.
I think the pump makes a difference. My electric is amazing. I could not pump 1oz till feeding time. I could feel the milk 'let down' and if I was away from baby I kept a picture or her blanket near by. If I was near any baby crying... I could easily pump. I would pump after feeding and always stop 1/2 way and switch sides.

Personal questions like... Has your period returned? If so have you noticed a decrease near menstration? BirthControl pills can cause a reduction. Stress... You could try oatmeal, feeding longer/more frequently. Or maybe a different pump.
Thank you for this info. Maybe I do need a different pump. I was pumping really good with the hospital pump and the electric pump I got from WIC is not working well at all. I can get more with the hand held but it gets so tiring.

Talk to WIC. I know that they have the breastfeeding consultants that will help you with your pump if that is the problem. :)
