Permalink Reply by samanths hines on August 13, 2012 at 6:43pm i could never pump 8-11 oz i exclusively breast fed and after i fed her i could get 3-5 oz with the hospital pump but with the store bought ones i would get 1-2 oz the baby gets the milk out better than a pump feed your baby than pump after each feeding AND increase feeding time i breastfed 20 min on each breast than pumped for 5 min each side after and after a couple days your supply should increase dont get stressed and think your baby is starving just because you cant pump much keep a log for a few days of how many wet and soiled diapers he gets each day to make sure he is gertting enough tr contact lactation they can weight baby before a feeding and after to make sure he is getting enough.
It may not be a production thing. It might be a let-down thing. I never had much luck pumping, so I only did it when absolutely necessary (I was home for the first year), but the only thing that worked for me was to put the baby on one breast and pump the other at the same time. It helped the milk let-down, and I got so much more milk at a faster rate than I ever did when I pumped without the baby nursing.
