I breastfed my now 23mo. Til she was 14mo. & she has this attachment to my breast where she has to touch, rub or lay on them & it's never really bothered me except when we were in public, but I thought she would grow out of it, but here we are 10mos later & she still does it. I now have a 4 wk old & whenever I'm nursing her my 23mo. climbs up on my lap & lays on my breast & sometimes feels the need to rub them. I have 7 children & I've breastfed all of them & never had this issue. I feel like she sees my breast as a security (like a blankie or Teddy) & I don't know how to break her of this habit without hurting or possibly scarring her emotionally. Any advice?

Can you find an object to transfer her attachment to? I don't think it would scar her at all if you found a blanket, or doll, or toy that you kept with you. Each time she started to rub you could put the object in her hand and say something along the lines of, "mommy's breasts are private, here's your lovey to rub."

why is that not ok? she will outgrow it i am still breastfeeding my daughter just turned 2 i quit nursing for 3 weeks and started again just once or twice a day...she had them over half her life and now you are giving them to a new baby she just wants to still feel close and each child is different she/he is obviously more attached than your others

I nursed my first daughter until she was 2, and she did the same thing for about a year after I weaned her.  I never said anything about it, and she outgrew it on her own.  She also wanted to get close and lay her head on my chest when I was first nursing her little sister.  Don't sweat it.  She'll outgrow it.  My daughter did, and I also have two friends whose kids did the same thing after being weaned, and they outgrew it, too.

aww that makes me sad :( poor baby. she just wants to know that she is still loved is all. she wants to be close to you, don't push her away. my lo, almost 17m does this too. she self weaned at 15m. if i'm wearing just a bra or am topless she gets so happy and says boobie over and over again, and likes to hug and pet them. does not bother me at all. makes me glad actually that she rememvers and loves them even though she has no desire for their milk anymore. she also likes to point and tell others boobie. she is very proud of them haha which can be embarassing at time with strangers, but still yet it's very cute. just let her do this as long as she needs and give her hugs and tell her you love her just as much as the new baby. she'll outgrow it soon enough.
